2011 REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED! SEE YOU THIS WEEKEND ON THE HILL!

Let's get outside on Parks Day
Saturday, July 16th, 2011!

Get ready for the 3rd Great Canadian Backyard Campout (GCBC)! The GCBC is all about camping and enjoying being outside, not only in national and provincial parks, but also in our own backyards. Over the last two years, The Trail Shop and Parks Canada have partnered to bring this event to life.

The Great Canadian Backyard Campout is being held on Parks Day this year because it highlights the goals of the campout: to have a day set aside each year for communities to pour in to the outdoors and enjoy everything that is camping friends, food, games, tents, relaxation and adventure!

Join us this year either in your OWN BACKYARD, at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site, or at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and (re)discover how easy it can be to take a break from the daily routine and enjoy a night under the stars! The great outdoors has something for everyone, check it out!

Pitch a tent for a chance to win!

The Great Canadian Backyard Campout is a day to encourage everyone to get out and camp! Pitch a tent in your own backyard, at one of Nova Scotia's Provincial Parks, or at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site! Send us a photo or story of your campout and you could win an amazing grand prize!

THE GRAND PRIZE (valued at over $750):

Camp out at the Halifax Citadel NHS!

Join the Great Canadian Backyard Campout (GCBC) at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. Register your group for a unique camping experience inside the walls of the fort from 2pm on July 16th until 11am on July 17th. Take part in family activities such as guided stargazing (weather permitting), learning to cook simple camping meals, a scavenger hunt, a historical ghost tour, Victorian games for the kids, and of course, a campfire. The event is rain or shine, so activities may vary depending on the weather!

HOW TO REGISTER

Registration fee will be $75 per group of up to four, and $15 for each extra person, which covers all activities, dinner, evening snacks, and breakfast. Bring your own tent, or, if you don't have one, The North Face will be providing a limited number of tents for use- free of charge.

The goal of the campout is to show people how easy and fun it can be to get outdoors, and to encourage new GCBC campers join us this year. For this reason, priority registration will be given to new GCBC campers. We encourage returning GCBC campers to register as soon as possible - spaces will fill up quickly!
